The Namibian Police and the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) apprehended an Angolan national on Saturday after he was allegedly found in possession of 67 bullets of suspected cocaine powder.
The man was arrested at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, making it the second arrest in a week on similar charges. The first incident occurred last Thursday when another foreign national was screened and allegedly found to have 85 bullets in his stomach, also suspected to be cocaine. The suspect was arrested shortly after he excreted the parcels.
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said both suspects arrived in Namibia from Ethiopia.
It is alleged that the second suspect concealed the cocaine bullets in his underwear, with his final destination being Windhoek.
“The two detected incidents make it evident that there is a huge cocaine market in Namibia. As a society, we need to join hands and deal with Namibians and foreigners smuggling illicit substances through various entry points into our country. As a force, we are indebted to those who continue to report such activities and any such suspicions to the police,” Shikwambi said.
Investigations are underway to determine who the confiscated substances were destined for, she added.
Rape
The Police at the Aussenkehr farm are investigating a case of rape after a man allegedly raped a four-year-old girl. Crime investigations coordinator for
//Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Nikodemus Mbango told Nampa the alleged rape occurred between 10h00 and 14h00 on Friday when the minor went to play at a neighbour’s house while her mother was at work. The girl was left with the mother’s sister, upon the return of the mother from work she noticed that when the child went to use the bathroom, she complained of pain. The minor was medically examined, and the result came out positive for penetration. The police have not yet arrested the suspect and investigations continue.
Suicide
A 68-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Friday at Kalkfeld settlement in the Otjozondjupa region. Head of community affairs in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha said the deceased was positively identified on Saturday by his close relatives as Festus Hoeseb from the Build Together location at the settlement. No suicide note was left, and no foul play is suspected.
Murder
A 23-year-old Namibian man on Saturday died after he and his friends were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants near a bar in Goreangab, Windhoek. Police on Sunday said that in the incident that took place at about 02h39 when the now-deceased man and his friends were playing a jackpot machine in one bar and left. The Police said that the victim, with one of his friends came back running and both were stabbed and wounded, however, the deceased just walked a short distance and died on the spot. Investigations continue.
Robbery
The Police at Lüderitz are investigating a case of robbery and fraud after an unknown man allegedly defrauded a German national of about N$44 000. Mbango told Nampa the incident occurred on Thursday around 17h55 at the coastal town. It is alleged that the complainant had inserted his ATM card at the Nedbank ATM and entered his PIN, and while waiting for the money someone came from behind and cancelled the transaction. Police said the unknown man allegedly told the complainant that he was an employee of Nedbank and was there to assist him and left. The complainant waited for the card for a while but it didn’t come out and he suspects that the unknown man took the card without being detected. Mbango said by the time the complainant was busy calling the bank for assistance, his cellphone was already notifying him of withdrawals on three different occasions totalling 2 230.51 Euro, which is equivalent to N$44 375.40 and one of the withdrawals was done in Rundu. No money was recovered. Police investigations continue.
A 49-year-old Windhoek man and his family were on Saturday allegedly robbed of items and cash valued at N$100 000 at the home in Otjomuise’s Boston Street.
Shikwambi said the family was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint by four unknown male suspects at about 00h30. It is alleged that the suspects gained entry by cutting the burglar bars, entered and robbed them of items including one laptop, one television set, one cellphone, one wedding ring, and a passport as well as cash. No recovery and arrest have been made as police investigations continue.
A pensioner was on Saturday attacked and robbed at his home after suspects allegedly jumped over his residence wall and attacked him in his garage at Auasblick in Windhoek at about 12h00 and attacked him with a panga and knives. It is alleged that the suspects stole property including a vehicle, a pistol, a TV set and more items. The value of the properties is unknown at this stage and no arrests nor recoveries have been made yet and police investigations continue.
A 49-year-old Namibian male was Friday robbed of his personal belongings valued at N$10 100 after he was allegedly held at gunpoint by suspects along the B1 road in Windhoek. Shikwambi said the incident occurred at about 22h00 and that the victim was robbed of a cellphone, two tempo watches, a laptop bag, two pairs of shoes, two T-shirts, denim shorts and business registration documents.
No recovery nor arrests have been made yet and police investigations continue.
A 22-year-old Namibian male was on Friday robbed of his vehicle after being held at gunpoint in Havana in Windhoek.
The police said the incident occurred at about 12h00 and the vehicle was described to be a Golf 7 of which the value is yet to be determined. The suspect is still unknown and police investigations continue, the police said.
