KATIMA MULILO – A 28-year-old man burnt beyond recognition when a vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle on the Katima Mulilo-Ngoma road on Sunday.
According to a police report issued by Zambezi police spokesperson, Inspector Kisco Sitali, the accident happened on Sunday at around 18h20 in the Mubiza area, nearly 20 kilometres east of Katima Mulilo.
The deceased who has been identified as Immanuel Munyalumbu, was driving a GWM SUV vehicle that collided with a Ford Ranger with a Census sticker.
Munyalumbu died instantly after his vehicle caught fire following the impact. His next of kin have been informed.
Sitali said the five occupants, including the 38-year-old male driver from the Ford Ranger, were all rushed to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital for treatment.
The driver, as well as two minors, a boy aged seven and a two-year-old girl who escaped the accident unharmed were released.
Two other passengers – a 28-year-old female who sustained a broken thigh, and a 33-year-old woman with minor injuries – were admitted in stable conditions.
According to Sitali, a case of negligent driving and culpable homicide has been opened at the Katima Mulilo police station, and police investigations continue.
