RUNDU – The Namibian Police in the Kavango East have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder and attempted murder case of two pensioners.
Crime investigations coordinator in the region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa on Tuesday that one suspect was arrested last Friday and the second suspect on Monday.
Both were expected to appear in the Ndiyona Periodic Court on Tuesday.
It is alleged that while the couple was having dinner around 19h30, the suspect entered their homestead at Mabushe village and started shooting at the 84-year-old man, who was identified as Mbambi Shikanda.
Shikanda was shot in the hip and died on the spot while his 92-year-old wife was injured on the left thigh.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
In an unrelated incident, the body of a boy presumed to be between the ages of 14 and 17 was found behind the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) offices in Rundu around 20h30 on Sunday.
It is alleged that the deceased committed suicide by hanging himself in a nearby tree.
The body was discovered by a passerby who alerted the police. His remains were transported to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary pending police investigation.
No foul play is suspected, although no suicide note was found at the scene.
The body is not yet identified as the boy’s name, age and nationality are not known. The police have called on members of the public to assist in identifying the deceased.
