The Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) last week launched its five-year integrated strategic business plan (ISBP) in the capital.
The business plan runs from 2023 to 2028.
During the event, the CPBN also launched its new website, which will redefine the online experience for all users and represent an innovative design, a user-friendly interface, and a passion for delivering exceptional value to its users.
Deputy minister of finance Maureen Hinda-Mbuende presided over the ceremony. “It is key to note that the strategic plan will focus on the following areas, namely to ensure stakeholder satisfaction; improve financial management; improve good governance; improve public procurement service delivery within its mandate; inculcate a performance-driven culture; and enable the CPBN through appropriate infrastructure,” she said.
Hinda-Mbuende added that she was informed that the performance of the CBPN has improved since its inception in 2017, and that it is evident in the drastic increase in the number of procurement contracts awarded from only one procurement contract during the 2017/2018 financial year (FY) to 21 contracts during the 2022/2023 FY.
Furthermore, the value of procurement contracts has likewise increased from N$111 million during the 2017/2018 FY to over N$2.2 billion worth of procurement contracts awarded during the 2022/2023 FY.
“The CPBN plays a very crucial role in the Namibian economy, as well as towards the attainment of national developmental goals of the Namibian government, particularly economic growth and the reduction of unemployment,” Hinda-Mbuende stated.
About 75% of procurement contracts awarded by the CPBN were given to 100% Namibian-owned entities over the past five years.
