The fourth edition of the Jungle Winter Football Day’s annual tournament will be held at the NFA Technical Centre in the capital tomorrow.

Eight football teams are expected to participate in a one-day knockout tournament, with the winners expected to walk away with N$5 000 and a trophy.

Speaking to New Era Sport this week, Billa Kandjii, who is the competition organiser, said the aim of this annual tournament is to bring the players that are not playing in active leagues together.

“Our aim is to keep these non-league players fit and bring a spirit of togetherness among the players. This is where the non-league players showcase their skills and share football development ideas in Katutura,” Kandjii explained.

He said the winning team will pocket N$2 500 and a trophy, while the runners-up will walk away with N$1 500, and the two semifinalists will each receive N$500.

“We know that this is preseason and most leagues are closed; we will not allow premier league players to participate here,” he added.

The competing teams are El Maestro, Otjongutukiro, Oviketana Social Club, Parliament, Platinum, V6 Club, Truck Team, and Monis FC.

The draw will take place today at Jungle Spot at 19h00.

Kandjii said adults will pay N$20, children N$10, and cars N$20 at the gate.

“There will be food stalls, refreshments, and a live DJ as well,” he said. Last year, the Ballers football team and Otjokaurumbu had to share the prize money, as the final could not be completed due to bad lightning at the technical centre.
