Okahandja FC head coach Mecdoline Gamadas yesterday blamed her team’s poor performance on the lack of discipline from the players, saying it cost them valuable points in the ongoing Women’s Super League.
Okahandja played back-to-back matches over the weekend, as they had two games in hand they needed to finish off.
On Saturday, they faced Right Way Phoenix in a match that ended one-all. Yesterday, they were thrashed 1-8 by the league’s defending champions Tura Magic.
“I think we lacked discipline today, and that disrupted our game plan… It left us stranded without having to play a decent ball game,” she told New Era Sport.
Gamadas, however, said they will work on those shortcomings and return to winning ways.
“I believe it’s now back to the drawing board to work on ourselves to ensure we win our next tie, as I believe we have the capability to do these things,” she said.
The results over the weekend place Okahandja second-last on the log with five points, two points above Omaheke Queens, who are trailing behind with only three points.
Meanwhile, Shama Gure of Tura Magic Ladies said it was their plan to climb to the top of the league. He said the match against Okahandja was not easy, but they gave them a good run for their money.
“As the defending champions, the pressure is always on you to ensure you keep up with the standards you’ve set for yourself. We have done well since the beginning of the new season, and I believe heading into today’s (yesterday) match we knew we needed points – and it was up to us to get a win and return on top,” he noted.
“I would say I am satisfied, and we should learn to keep the same momentum. But I would not say it was easy, as they also gave us a good run for our money.”
As it stands, Tura Magic are on top of the summit with 34 points, followed by Girls and Goals with 33 points and Khomas Nampol with 28 points.
Unam Bokkies are in fourth position with 27 points in the 14-team league.
