RUNDU – A 12-year-old girl was on Saturday attacked by a crocodile while fetching water from the Kavango River at Shikoro village.
The minor was rushed to Nyangana hospital for medical assistance, where she was declared dead.
It was reported that a passerby saved the victim from being drowned by the deadly crocodile by chasing it with a canoe, and that is when the crocodile let go of the girl.
Kavango East Police acting commander Eino Nambahu, who confirmed the incident, said the victim was identified as Eleotheria Mashe Ngoma.
In a separate incident, the Rundu police on Friday night arrested a man, who allegedly stabbed to death another with a bottle on both arms on Friday at 22h35 at the Kehemu location.
He died later at the Rundu State Hospital.
According to information obtained by an investigator on the scene, the victim and the suspect argued, and a fight broke out. They were both under the influence of alcohol.
The suspect stabbed the victim with a broken bottle, causing serious injuries to the now-deceased, who was rushed to Rundu hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“An adult male, aged 37, residing in Kehemu, was arrested and will appear in court for murder. The deceased male was identified as Sipira Lukas (27), also a resident of the Kehemu location,” police said.
