SPAR Namibia has announced that it will be the lead sponsor for the country’s junior national inline hockey teams for the next three years.
The company will provide support for all training camps, team gear, and travel expenses for coaches and managers, as well as cover the travel costs for four underprivileged players to attend the Inline Hockey World Championship.
Sean Komlosy, Divisional Marketing Director of SPAR Western Cape & Namibia, believes that sports play a significant role in shaping a person’s character, particularly for children at the grassroots level. He stated that the sponsorship will help the team reach its full potential while promoting inline hockey in Namibia.
Komlosy added, “Sport brings communities together and has the power to build character. Our SPAR sports sponsorships aim to support areas that have been overlooked, and we see great potential in the development of Namibia’s inline hockey teams.”
Inline hockey, which is similar to ice hockey but played on inline skates, has been gaining popularity in Namibia. The national teams have achieved impressive results at international tournaments, with the men’s team ranking 4th in the world and the women’s team being crowned world champions at the end of 2022.
Bernd Bajorat, president of the Namibian Ice & Inline Hockey Association, said that the sponsorship came at a crucial time as the team has several international competitions lined up. He added that the support will boost the players’ morale and character.
Bajorat expressed, “Our vision is to make inline hockey the preferred sport in Namibia and shape the characters of future leaders. We are thrilled to welcome SPAR Namibia on board as we strive to conquer the world.”
