KEETMANSHOOP – Families in the //Kharas region have for the past few months lost women at an alarming rate due to the escalating incidents of gender based violence (GBV) related murders emanating from relationship altercations.

Police regional crime investigations coordinator, Nicodemus Mbango in the weekly crime report reported a case of murder took place in Aus last weekend, after an alleged heated argument between a male suspect and a female victim who were in a romantic relationship.

“The suspect pushed the deceased onto the ground and thereafter stabbed her multiple times on her body with a knife, leading to the woman succumbing to her injuries,” said the deputy commissioner.

He continued that the suspect has been arrested and will appear in court during the course of the week. Mbango also said police investigations are ongoing whilst the deceased’s next of kin have been informed accordingly.

In a separate incident, the human remains of a person were discovered in the mountain areas west of the Westdene suburb in Keetmanshoop.

“A guy collecting firewood in the vicinity allegedly discovered the remains and informed the police,” said the senior police officer.

He also said a grey/black short trouser and maroon T-shirt was found near the scene of which pictures will now be put in the media, hoping possible relatives might identify it.

“An autopsy will be carried out and DNA samples will in addition be obtained from the human remains to be send to the forensic laboratory as a means to determine the sex of the deceased, which police suspect is that of a female,” Mbango concluded.
