Schools’ netball league starts tomorrow… 85 teams ready for action

The Capricorn Group has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering schools’ netball in Namibia by announcing the continuation of its sponsorship for the annual Capricorn Schools Netball League.

Since 2017, when it inherited sponsorship from its subsidiary Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Group has been steadfast in its support.

Commencing tomorrow, the league will kick off with the inaugural matches in Windhoek, leading up to the national playoffs on 24 August.

Group Executive: Brand and Corporate Affairs at Capricorn Group Marlize Horn said they are proud of the legacy of positively contributing to netball development in Namibia over many years. “The league provides a platform for netball players to compete for their schools in the national league and to play competitive netball, thereby enhancing their skills.

“Furthermore, sports, including netball, play an important role in building character and fostering teamwork, commitment and hard work among the youth.

“We remain committed to supporting sports development, especially women’s sports, to create sustainable opportunities in the regions and communities where we operate,” added Horn.

This year’s edition of the league will witness the participation of 85 teams hailing from various regions across Namibia, including Khomas, //Kharas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Oshikoto, Omaheke and Erongo.

Notably, the number of participating teams has surged by over 20% compared to 2023, with representation from 25 public and private schools. The teams will vie for the coveted title across different age categories, ranging from U/12 to U/19.

Chairperson of Capricorn Schools Netball League, Liezel Garbers, expressed excitement for the commencement of the league, anticipating a thrilling season of competitive matches. She extended gratitude to Capricorn Group for its unwavering support, underscoring the organisation’s pivotal role in ensuring the league’s success.

The matches for this weekend will be held at Windhoek Gymnasium for the U/12, 13, and 14 teams, while Windhoek High School will host the U/15, 17, and 19 teams. Fans can stay updated on match fixtures and results by following the Capricorn Schools Netball League Facebook page.
