Several coaching courses in various sports disciplines are lined up as part of the Namibia Annual Sports Awards (NASA) to be held in Lüderitz in the //Kharas region on Saturday.
“There will be a boxing coaching clinic, which will be conducted by veteran boxing coach Nestor Tobias and boxing equipment that be donated to a local boxing club,” said Chalo Chainda, who is part of the organising committee.
A basketball coaching clinic as well as ones for karate and rugby will also be on offer for learners from schools in the //Kharas region.
“These programmes will all be of great benefit to the growth of the sport in our country,” he said.
The coaching courses are part of the 18th edition of NASA to be hosted by the Lüderitz Waterfront Auditorium and will see the country’s top-achieving athletes compete for prizes in over 20 categories.
The much-anticipated awards are aimed at celebrating the country’s top sportspersons for their outstanding performances on the local and international sports scene.
Chainda further told this publication that preparations are at an advanced stage, and they are ready to host the prestigious event.
“We are 99% ready for this event; we are just doing the final touches this week – ahead of the main event to be staged this Saturday,” he said.
“We have a local organising team (LOC) that is working so hard to ensure everything is ready. We have a team that left for Lüderitz yesterday to work on the lighting and sound; this is for broadcasting of the main event.”
The sponsors are led by MTC, Debmarine Namibia, Nampower, Namibia Wildlife Resorts, New Era Publication Corporation and Standard Bank Namibia.
Tickets to this year’s awards will cost N$20 000 for a table for 10 people and N$500 for individuals and federations
