WALVIS BAY – The Walvis Bay municipality has earmarked N$173 million of its budget for land development projects.
The municipal council’s management committee chairperson, councillor Richard Hoaeb, tabled the budget.
He indicated that land delivery projects run over more than one financial year.
Hoaeb tabled a budget with a total value of N$887 million for capital projects that will be executed over more than one financial year.
The total amount anticipated to be spent during the ensuing financial year is N$461 million, with the remaining N$426 million to be spent during the year ending June 2025 and beyond.
Breaking it down, he said that over N$55 million has been allocated to three portions of Farm 37, which will see the establishment of 727 erven, of which 677 are for residential purposes.
A further N$48 million has been budgeted for the development of Narraville Extension 8, which is expected to yield 225 erven, of which 194 are residential erven.
“N$10 million has been budgeted for the development of Extension 3 in Meersig, which is expected to yield about 96 erven, of which 86 are residential erven,” Hoaeb said.
Additionally, N$42 million is earmarked for service delivery projects, which involve the implementation, upgrading and replacement of water and sewer infrastructure, and the planning and construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.
“Infrastructure repair and replacement is allocated N$104 million. This involves tarring of streets, resealing and rebuilding of streets and intersections,” Hoaeb added.
He further stated that N$35 million has been allocated for social projects, which will be used for the upgrading of Ekutu, Narraville Cemetery, the Build Together Programme, and the construction of a fire station at Farm 37.
They will also spend N$91.5 million on vehicle replacements and additions. The council’s duties have been significantly impacted by the frequent breakdown of refuse trucks, and to address this issue, the council has procured new trucks to ensure timely refuse removal.
