Two arrested for stolen beef

Two men were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday after they were allegedly found transporting four fresh beef carcasses in their vehicle on the B1 road at Okahandja.

Namibian Police crime investigations coordinator, Edna Nawa, yesterday said the duo aged 31 and 32 face charges of stock theft and possession of suspected stolen meat with an estimated value of N$55 000.

She stated that the suspects were spotted by members of NamPol, who were on patrol alongside the B1 road at Okahandja at about 03h00 on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that the white pickup vehicle with Windhoek registration coming from the northern side of Okahandja, heading to the south, looked suspicious when it was stopped by the police officers on patrol,” said Nawa. This led to the driver speeding off and a chase ensued until the vehicle was blocked and stopped at the traffic lights opposite the Okahandja Shopping Mall. There, a search was conducted, and the carcasses were allegedly found.

The suspects were arrested, and are expected to appear in court at Okahandja today.
