ONDANGWA – In the quest to plough back into the community, the Ondangwa Town Council has partnered with the Valombola Vocational Training Centre to provide internships in pipefitting and plumbing to eight trainees from the town for the next three years.
The partnership will be a continuous programme.
Mayor Paavo Amwele said despite government’s efforts to provide job opportunities, many youth still find themselves unemployed. He noted that council believes the programme will assist government in fighting against youth unemployment.
“The unemployment problem is not only a government problem, but it is a problem for us Namibians. It is with this background that the council and VTC passed a resolution to start with the programme of training our youths to give them skills and knowledge so that when they finish their programme, they will be able to stand with their own business and be able to employ others,” said Amwele.
He stressed that council believes that a community with skills will always be victorious, hence the introduction of this programme.
Ondangwa CEO Ismael Namugongo said the town not only provides services, but also contributes to the socio-economic development of the people.
“This partnership is part of council’s contributions to Ondangwa and the socio-economic development at the town,” he added.
