Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU) national coordinator Solly Duiker has said the team that will represent the country at this year’s Confederation of Southern African School Sports Associations (Cosassa) Ball Games is well-balanced and ready to make the country proud.
Team Namibia for the 2022 Cosassa Ball Games will depart for Johannesburg, South Africa early next month.
Duiker shared that all other sport codes have already selected their final squads; only football and netball teams will finalise their final squads this coming weekend at the Debmarine ‘Bridging the Gap’ initiative.
“We have a strong team being assembled for this competition (Cosassa); so far, other sport codes have already put their teams together, but football and netball will be selecting a compatible team during upcoming Debmarine ‘Bridging the Gap’ initiative, which will be held at Swakopmund on 30 September,” he said. Team Namibia for the 2022 Cosassa Ball Games is expected to leave the country for Johannesburg on 4 October, where the tournament will be held.
This year’s Cosassa games were initially supposed to take place in Zambia – but due various existing Covid-19 restrictions, the competition was moved to South Africa. In terms of overall readiness, Duiker reiterated he believes the team is ready to make the country proud, saying all athletes are expected to gather in Windhoek next weekend to continue with the training ahead of their departure.
“I am happy with the way the teams are looking. So far, the selected sport codes are training at their respective towns, but they are expected to arrive in the capital, where they will do final training before they depart for the competition.”
Sports that will compete at this year’s Cosassa Ball Games include football, netball, hockey, volleyball, tennis and rugby.
