Kilimanjaro announces boxing bonanza

The MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club is set to host its second professional boxing bonanza of the year in October at the Independence stadium in Oshakati.

Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, owner of the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club Joseph Bernard said the event will be one of the most exciting boxing events of the year with an exciting line-up of boxers.

The bonanza will be headlined by Michael Benhard, who will square off against Andreas Nghinaunye in an eight-rounder welterweight non-title fight.

“This is our second bonanza for the year. We are expecting it to be one of the best bonanzas of the year. We will have close to 10 fights on the night – with all being non-title fights,” he said.

He added the bonanza will help boxers within the northern regions gauge themselves after being out of the ring for almost five months.

“This is what we want. With more fights, it means that more boxers are gaining skills and improving their ranking. We are excited to host events such as this and it promotes the growth of the sport in the country,” he added.

Also fighting on the night is Johannes Nangolo, who will square off against Kareb Shitana in a four-rounder heavyweight fight, while Edison Nghipondoka will face Damanikus Weyula in a welterweight four-rounder.

In the lightweight division, Ferela Johannes will take on Jonas Ndeuyama over four rounds, while Stefanus Fabianus will trade blows with Gerson Alweendo in a four-rounder featherweight fight.

Sheetekela Risto will exchange leather with Shanyengane Joseph over four rounds in the bantamweight, while Alfeus Shaanika will take on Samuel Nakwafila in a welterweight division four-rounder.

Tickets are pegged at N$50 for general seats and N$150 for VIP seats, while tables for 10 are going for N$10 000.
