The Namibia Beach Volleyball national men’s team recently put up a great performance in Siavonga, Zambia, where they won a silver medal in the Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tours 4th leg.
Namibia travelled with two men’s teams and one ladies’ team, of which all, except one player, are under 19 years old.
Eleven nations competed in the competition.
The team of Jan-Eric Sack (25) and Fabian Biederlack (17) managed to prevail against 11 other teams to play the final against Jack and Chiswaniso from Botswana.
In an interview yesterday, NBV representative Achim Luck said the tournament went well for them, given the fact that they travelled with an inexperienced and youthful team.
He added that getting a silver medal was actually a surprise to them.
“It was a great competition; we did well and I am proud of what we achieved at the competition, considering that we had a young team without experience. Our opponents were good; they had experienced players and for us to go that far means we can take on anyone,” he said.
The other men’s team comprised Roman Dainat (16) and Max Krafft (16) who managed to finish in the ninth position.
The women’s team consisted of sisters Romy (17) and Piroschka (14) Lück and they ended fifth overall.
NVF president Hillary Imbuwa said: “It is evident that Namibia has more potential in beach volleyball and it is for this reason that our MOU with the Moroccan Royal Volleyball Federation will also focus and create more opportunities for beach volleyball players in other parts of the country”.
During the closing ceremony, Namibia was praised as being a role model in youth development by the Zambian Volleyball Association.
