WALVIS BAY – The Exclusive Lederwaeen Shop in Swakopmund suffered a huge loss when thieves broke into the shop and looted goods valued at about N$480 000 early yesterday morning.
The shop situated at the Arcade in Swakopmund, sells various goods such as belts, handbags and wallets made out of mostly ostrich leather.
Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu yesterday said the alarm system that is connected to the owner’s phone allegedly went off shortly before the alleged break-in.
The owner then alerted the security company G4S who rushed to the shop.
“They found the main door was forced open with an unknown object. The suspects stole ostrich leather belts, buffalo belts, handbags and several ostrich leather wallets,” Iikuyu said.
According to him, their investigations so far indicate that there were two suspects in the shop wearing hoodies. The suspects allegedly shortly after the theft, jumped into an unidentified silver seven-seater and drove away.
No recovery or arrest has been made at this stage and police are now requesting assistance from the public in tracing the suspects and recovering the stolen goods.
