A One Love, One Heart, One Beat family fun day, filled with Jamaican food, music and culture will take place tomorrow at Eagles Restaurant in Klein Windhoek near the Avis Dam.

The festivities are in celebration of Jamaica’s  60th independence anniversary and take place under the theme ‘Re-igniting a nation for greatness’. It is organised by the Consulate of Jamaica in Namibia in association with the NAMJAM community.

Unlike previous years when the Jamaican Independence Day celebrations were for invited and in-house diplomatic guests only, the doors this year have been thrown wide open for the public to join in the festivities.

“It  is  all about Jamaican and  Namibian communities coming together to eat, celebrate Jamaican culture and enjoy ourselves with family,” said the cultural attaché for the Jamaican consulate in Windhoek, Tehuti Raa.

He added the event is also an opportunity for the Caribbean diaspora in Namibia to be honoured for their contributions to society, noting that many industries are connected and interlinked, with Jamaican people actively contributing to these job markets.

“Thus, the event is a token of appreciation to these communities and a way of showing thanks,” said Raa.

A host of live music performances from up-and-coming artists is a chance for them to showcase their raw talent without feeling overwhelmed by the presence of established artists.

Entry for children is N$20 and N$50 for adults. Activities will run from 10h00 to 21h00.
