RUNDU – Kavango East Swapo Party Youth League on Sunday re-elected regional secretary Anslem Marungu to serve for another five-year term. The regional conference also elected Bibiana Shapi, as regional mobiliser while Rauna Ntjamba became the regional treasurer.
Marungu, who had no challenger, described the vote as free and fair. He said the youth league in the region is united.
“We never had squabbles in the youth league,’’ he said. Marungu noted that the regional conference was indeed a sign of unity and patriotism.
“I am honoured to be given the chance to lead the youth for another term. I feel the youth in the region trust me and my leadership. So far, I think I have been addressing issues concerning challenges faced by the youth. I am for the youth and whatever we are facing, we have to address it together,” he noted.
We are driving the youth agenda so that we address some of those challenges, especially youth unemployment, he said.
Marungu added Swapo remains their political home and no other party will solve their problems.
“I want to encourage all young people to join the party. The elders were also young people when they joined. They did what they have done, and we respect them for that. The youth, however, must also come in and define our journey.
Let’s not be misled by fly-by-night political parties that are being formed because of anger, frustration and power hungry people. We must remain in the revolutionary party so that we define our political and economic journey,” he campaigned.
The conference also elected additional members; Moses Shikerete, Ervin Likoro, Clementine Rufus, Cecilia Hausiku and candidates to the central committee (CC) in the name of Erwina Karupu, Gertrud Ndara, Moses Shikerete and Andreas Marungu.
