Are you Namibia’s fastest typist?

Are you Namibia’s fastest typist?

With the rise in technology use and contemporary communication in media, touch-typing has become a very valuable skill that many have acquired.

To see who is the fastest, The Document Warehouse (TDW) is arranging a speed-typing competition. Organiser of the event, Janifar Scott said they thought of the speed-typing test because it is rare in Namibia. “I’m not sure; it’s probably a bit farfetched because I’m not sure if we reached the whole of Namibia (with this competition). People know of the fastest typist in the world, and we would want to know who is the fastest typist in Namibia,” she told New Era. Scott indicated that the average typing speed is around 40 words per minute (WPM), but that this can be influenced by how one types.

“Should you use the two-finger method, you will not be able to type more than 27 WP. If, however, you use touch-typing with all 10 fingers, you can easily type more than 50 WPM,” she explained.

Chief business development officer at TDW Marilize Cohen, said typing and the precise use of a computer keyboard is a valuable asset, given that computers are used for both work-related and personal activities, as well as for social media.

“Within the workplace, it is of value to appoint someone familiar and confident in keyboard usage, which usually improves their work performance significantly. We would like to highlight and reward this mostly unrecognised skill within the work environment,” she highlighted.

So, if you think you can type fast, access The Document Warehouse on Facebook for the code/link to the competition.  Preliminary tests are on 27, 28 and 29 June between 07h30 to 18h00.

From there, the six fastest typists will be selected for the final on 2 July 2022 at The Village in Eros.

The winner gets a Samsung A22 smartphone.
