Four St. George’s alumni are currently on football trials for professional contracts in Italy and Spain.
They will spend a week in each country, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities.
The four from the class of 2021 are Zander McClune, Xavier McClune, Filippo Micheletti and Brooklyn Willemse.
They have been training in Johannesburg at the World-Wide Scholarship (WWS) training facility for the last four weeks in preparation for the trials.
The four players were part of the St. George’s U/15 team of 2018, which had a fantastic season in which they won all six tournaments they participated in, as well as the school league that year. That team scored an average of three goals per match and conceded less than a goal a game over the season.
All four players in the past represented either the Namibian national team or the Khomas Regional team in their age group.
“The players are in good spirit and can’t wait to have the trials. They will have a couple of training sessions before showcasing their abilities to respective clubs during the trial period,” said Steve McClune, who coached these players at St. George’s over the last few years.
School management expressed pride in the achievements of these young men and wished them all the very best.
