Nkurenkuru – Philantropist Fiedler Wolfgang officially handed over two blocks of four classrooms, two storage rooms and a standalone pre-primary class with its own kitchen and ablution facilities to the Mukekete Primary School in the Kavango West’s Mpungu circuit earlier this week.
The donation, which is valued at N$2.6 million, comes as a relief for the school as some learners were taught in temporary structures.
The school started off with one classroom block and temporary structures, and has benefited from Wolfgang’s generosity over the years as he ensured that the school got a fully-furnished hostel block, kitchen, water borehole, stationeries, classroom blocks as well as got the school fenced off, which brings the total expenditure to N$5.5 million.
During the handover, Wolfgang indicated that he takes pride in building schools to assist learners.
“I lived in different countries and saw the need for education, so developing education was always my passion from the heart,” he said.
In return, the region’s acting director of education Herbert Karapo commended the gesture and described Wolfgang as a philanthropic donor who met the government halfway. In this way, children can have access to proper education.
“We are indeed grateful to have a partner like Mr Fiedler Wolfgang, who has love and passion for education and always ensures that he gets resources as well as being our lead donor and valued stakeholder in education,” he stated.
Karapo then appealed to fellow stakeholders to follow this remarkable example as the government alone will not be able to fulfil its obligations, but with stakeholders coming on board, it will ensure that the Namibian child is benefiting from the education system.
“A donation such as the construction of classrooms and a hostel at the Mukekete Primary School is a great gesture which will enable the marginalised and disadvantaged like the San community at the Mukekete village have access to education, which will contribute meaningfully to their livelihoods,” he added.
