Schools around the country are invited to select eligible and skilful players to take part in the U/20 national trials set for tomorrow at the Hage Geingob stadium in the capital.
The trials serve to select players that will compete at the upcoming Barthes Cup in Kenya.
“The Namibia national U/20 rugby team will participate in the 2022 Rugby Africa Barthes Trophy. Kenya Rugby Union will be the host of the tournament. The final date of the tournament will be confirmed by Rugby Africa soon, but it will be in April/May,” said the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) in a statement issued earlier this week.
Participating players should be at the stadium by 8h00 tomorrow morning. All nominated players are expected to bring a certified copy of their identity document and passport.
NRU interim CEO William Steenkamp told New Era Sport yesterday they are expecting athletes to turn up in large numbers, and have thus far registered about 60 players.
“We are hoping to have more to come and register because there is no guarantee that all players will turn up. From our side, we are ready to host the trials and expect to scout enough potential players,” he said.
