A City of Windhoek emergency services employee lost his life in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday morning after he and another colleague attended a call-out.
The employee has been identified as Methusalah Simataa Khama. He joined the City in 2008. According to City of Windhoek spokesperson, Lydia Amutenya, the accident involved a municipality ambulance and another vehicle and occurred at around 07h00 on the Hosea Kutako drive, in Windhoek’s Northern industrial area.
“A City of Windhoek rescue team was dispatched from headquarters and promptly arrived at the scene. The victims were removed from the wreckage, and advanced medical treatment was administered following established protocols. Unfortunately, despite the immediate and advanced medical efforts by the rescue team and due to the nature of the impact and severity of injuries, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries,”Amutenya said in a statement released on Sunday afternoon.
The other victim, she said, is in a serious but stable condition and is hospitalised.
“The Windhoek municipal council and the entire staff extend sincere condolences to the family of our deceased colleague during this difficult time. We also wish the colleague receiving medical attention at a local hospital strength and a speedy recovery,” Amutenya added.
