Under the ‘Back to School Programme’, the Katutura Central constituency office handed over school uniforms to 50 vulnerable and destitute pupils from all five schools in the constituency.
The event was held at the Katutura Community Hall last Wednesday.
The 10 learners each were selected from five schools – Moses Van Del Byl, Namibia English Primary, Theo Katjimune, Bethold Himumuine, and Jacob Marengo.
On the occasion, constituency councillor Vezemba Rodman Katjaimo said the intervention is a testament to the constituency’s dedication to support those in need and ensuring that every child can attend school with dignity and pride.
“In the spirit of love and dignity, we have taken it upon ourselves to care for the less privileged and downtrodden members of our society,” Katjaimo said.
To strengthen this dedication, Katjaimo pledged an amount of N$1 000 to each top-performing learner from each of the five schools, totalling N$5 000.
The office has also provided free internet access to Katutura Library and Jacob Marengo Secondary School, enhancing educational opportunities and enabling pupils to access necessary resources for academic success.
“Education is taken seriously in their constituency, and as such, they are committed to ensuring that every child has access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances,” the sports presenter-turned-politician said.
Amardo Peters, a member of the community development committee, stressed that this provision, although small now, will have a significant impact on contributing to national development.
This paper reached out to various learners, who expressed gratitude for the new school uniform gift, expressing happiness to be rid of old uniforms and finally feel they belong.
Principals and teachers alike also expressed gratitude to the constituency office for their support.
