The Annual Career Fair, held at Eldorado Secondary School in Windhoek, highlighted the importance of networking and career exploration for students.
The event drew a diverse group of learners, educators and industry professionals, offering valuable opportunities to engage with experts and chart their career paths.
Keynote speaker Khomas governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua emphasised the career fair’s role in providing a window into potential career opportunities.
She urged students to approach the fair with curiosity and an open mind, acknowledging that career paths are often non-linear, and filled with opportunities for growth.
“As you walk through the field and engage with professionals from diverse industries, I encourage you to approach today with curiosity and an open mind. The fair isn’t just about exploring job titles. It’s about discovering your passion, understanding your strengths and investing in the future you want to create for yourself,” she said.
She added: “Consider the impact you want to make in the world, the values that drive you, and how you can use your talents to contribute meaningfully to your communities and beyond. It’s you, and it’s you for tomorrow”.
She reminded students that the journey to a fulfilling career is not always a straight path.
“It’s okay to try new things, stumble and learn from setbacks. What matters most is your resilience, willingness to adapt,and determination to pursue your dreams with passion and perseverance,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, Regina Mulisa, senior education officer of examinations, stressed the significance of passing Grade ,11 and 12 exams as a gateway to higher education and future careers. She encouraged learners to leverage the career fair for networking, seeking advice and exploring various career options.
“As you engage with industry leaders and professionals here today, take full advantage of their wisdom and their experience. Ask questions, and take advice. Listen attentively. They have walked the path before you, and can offer valuable insights that will help you navigate your own journey,” she advised. She further encouraged them to believe in their potential.
“Each of you has unique talents, skills and passions. Don’t be afraid to dream big. Pursue those dreams with determination and enthusiasm. Your ideas and inspirations are very important, and the world needs your creativity… This is your opportunity to network ,and make connections with your future employers. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. Let them know who you are, and where you are coming from. Those interactions could be the start of meaningful relationships that might open doors of opportunities for you,” she said.
The fair showcased a wide range of professionals from various industries, giving students the chance to interact, ask questions and explore different career paths. This diverse representation allowed learners to gain insights and make connections that could significantly influence their future career choices.
The successful execution of the event was attributed to the efforts of the Directorate of Education in the Khomas region, along with dedicated educators and volunteers.
The 2024 Annual Career Fair is a three-day event, featuring professionals from numerous business institutions, who are presenting their products and offering guidance to interested learners. The fair continues to provide students with valuable networking opportunities and career insights.
