Kavango West schools get ICT equipment

MUSESE – In the spirit of advancing education through technology, local companies, the Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) Foundation and African Meat Suppliers recently donated IT equipment and chairs to schools in the Kavango West region.

Namdia donated 25 desktop computers, four laptops, five printers and a projector to Olavi Sivhute Kangumbe Combined School in the Musese constituency.

All items are valued at N$394 397.98.

“This equipment will serve multiple purposes. Firstly, offering digital alternatives will help reduce the strain on physical resources such as textbooks and paper. Students and teachers will now have access to a vast array of online educational resources, reducing the dependency on traditional learning materials,” said Namdia’s manager for IT and digital proliferation, Foibe Fabiano.

She noted that introducing this technology to the school will open new avenues for learning and growth, as learners will be able to access a wealth of information online, broadening their knowledge base, and enhancing their research capabilities.

“This access will also allow them to stay current with global educational trends and advancements, ensuring they are not left behind in this rapidly evolving digital landscape,” she said.

She added that the donation will change teaching and learning at school for the better.

“The computers and projector will be used to create and display stimulating activities that can arouse learners’ interest and participation in the lesson, making the transfer of knowledge very easy and convenient, which eventually leads to improvement in the school’s academic results,’’ said Johannes Mushongo, the principal of Olavi Sivhute Kangumbe Combined School.

He revealed that the learners will make use of the computers to go online, and access tutorials and other assisting materials, which they can use in doing their homework, activities, assignments and projects.

Learners will concentrate better during classes when the lessons are presented using power points to aid learning.

“We would like to assure you that we will use these items effectively to the benefit of the Namibian child. One day, when you learn that Olavi Sivhute has outperformed all other schools to become number one in the region, you should remember that it was made possible by your donation,’’ he said.

“Once again, on behalf of the school board, the teachers, the learners and indeed on our behalf, thank you very much, Namdia, for your generosity and kind gesture towards our school. We will forever be grateful. We hope it’s not the last time that we get something from you since we still have a lot of equally pressing needs, especially that of a school hall. We will still count on your support in the future,” he stated.

African Meat Suppliers also extended its helping hand to Nkinka Primary School by donating 100 chairs, a photocopy machine and two printers.

The company, which has been coming to the school’s aid since 2017, also gave N$10 000.

Etion Scott, African Meat Suppliers’ managing director, handed over the donation.

“I also have children, and we all need support. For us, it is very important to support children in their early stage, and to get involved in their education,” he said.
