Otjiwarongo Youth Cup a success – Kasaona

The coordinator of the recently-concluded Football Youth Cup competition, Raisameua Kasaona, expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the event.

 It was organised by the Otjiwarongo Sports Academy. 

The third edition of the competition attracted 57 football teams, varying from the boys and girls’ U/11 up to U/17 age groups played at Paresis Sports ground in Otjozondjupa region over the weekend. 

“We had over 1 000 football players competing against each other in their respective age group, which is another milestone in the development of young players,” he said.

He added that the showpiece is all about development, and sport will play a pivotal role in the development of the town.

Several winners were found in different age groups. 

The winner in each category was given a trophy and 20 gold medals.

The second place received 20 silver medals’ and 20 bronze medals for the third spot.

In the boys’ U/11 category, the City Pro A team came first, followed by Donatus Primary School (DPS) in second, while the City Pro B team scooped the third position.

Opuwo Football Academy emerged victor in the u/13 age group, followed by DPS in second place, while Gobabis Academy came third. 

In the U/15 category, Opuwo won again, leaving behind De Duine and Spesbona in second and third places, respectively. 

The U/17 age group award went to Lindy Cosmos, challenged by De Duine in second, whereas Waterberg came third.

Otjiwarongo Sports Academy won the girls’ U/17, while TLC claimed the second spot, and left the third position to Paresis Secondary School.

The coordinator emphasised that they will host a fourth edition of the Youth Cup next year.

“We are hoping to continue developing young players, and create platforms for them to display talent,” he stated. 

The event was made possible with the compliments of Cenored, Mr24/7 and the Otjiwarongo Municipality.
