African Stars’ chairperson Salomon Hei announced that newly-signed striker King Nasama will help ease Willy ‘Awilo’ Stephanus’ workload in the attacking set-up.
Hei emphasised that the team has lacked a dedicated number nine for an extended period, an area the technical committee has identified for strengthening.
The defending league champions signed Nasama from Hwange FC in Zimbabwe for an undisclosed fee.
“Stephanus is not a number nine; he is an attacking player, and has been the club’s top goal scorer for the past two seasons. We needed a true number nine, and our coach will now have more options upfront,” said Hei.
Nasama has signed a six-month contract with an option for extension. The 26-year-old striker’s impressive record with both his former club and the youth national team makes him a valuable addition. He scored 15 goals and provided eight assists for Hwange FC, while also netting four times and assisting once in 12 appearances for the Zimbabwe national U/20 team.
“Despite being sidelined by injuries, he has returned to form, and has already begun training with the team. He will bring added value, being a strong young player who is adept with both feet,” Hei added.
Regarding the team’s preparation for the upcoming season, he stated that preparations are well-underway and looking promising.
Additionally, the Okaserandu ladies’ team, known as African Stars Queens, has strengthened its squad by signing two vital players: Annah-Ida Heidi Somses from V-Power, and Mariam Guibes from Khorixas United.
Somses plays as an attacking midfielder, while Guibes will take on the striker role, bolstering the team’s prospects in the new women’s football league season. Somses is currently the national U/20 captain, boasting seven caps, 30 assists and 60 career goals.
