Grove Mall celebrates a decade in milestones

Grove Mall marked a significant moment in its history this week with the celebration of its 10th anniversary. The event, which included issuing vouchers worth N$10 000 to shoppers, was held at the Slowtown Atrium within the mall.

In his opening remarks, JP Duncan, asset manager at Atterbury, a property development firm, expressed gratitude and pride in the mall’s journey, acknowledging the challenges and triumphs that have shaped its success. He reflected on the early challenges leading up to the mall’s opening on 23 October 2014, recalling the chaotic yet thrilling final preparations.

“Despite the uncertainty, I am proud to say that on 23 October 2014, Grove Mall opened its doors to the public, marking the beginning of an incredible journey. The challenges we faced, from navigating an economic downturn to adapting to the unprecedented impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, tested our resilience, but through determination we emerged stronger than ever.”

Armond Boshoff, CEO of Atterbury, underscored the mall’s transformation into a central hub for shopping and entertainment in Windhoek.

“The Grove Mall has, over the past decade, evolved into a vibrant hub that aims to provide the very best shopping and entertainment experience for all its visitors. This development represents the very best of what Atterbury strives to achieve — creating spaces that add lasting value to the communities they serve,” said Boshoff.

He highlighted the success of the mall, with more than 19 million cars entering the parking, over 63 million customers walking through the doors over the past decade and contributing to more than N$18 billion in turnover while also creating employment for 1 576 people throughout the mall. “These numbers tell a story of resilience, innovation and community spirit,” Boshoff said.

As the event drew to a close, Duncan and Boshoff expressed gratitude to the community, tenants, service providers and financial partners who have been integral to Grove Mall’s success. They also emphasised commitment to driving future growth and innovation in the Namibian property landscape.
