RUNDU – 20-year-old Andreas Ihemba Kapupa who appeared on a charge of murder, was denied bail when he appeared in the Rundu magistrate court for murder of a security guard. The guard was stabbed to death with an okapi knife on Monday last week at Rundu’s Galaxy mall along Eugene Kakukuru Street in Rundu’s central business district.
His case was remanded to 6 March for further police investigations. He appeared before Rundu magistrate Selma Shiinga while public prosecutor Michael Munika represented the state.
The deceased security guard was identified as Pius Sivamba Muyambo (29).
The incident took place on Monday morning at around 11H00 at the Rundu Galaxy mall, when the suspect stabbed the deceased with a knife in the neck. The guard was declared dead upon arrival at the Rundu intermediate hospital. The deceased who was a security guard on duty at the mall, was employed by Myloje security company.
According to police, it was alleged that Kapupa was found sitting near the Galaxy mall toilet and when confronted by the security guard (now deceased) to find a more suitable place to eat. Kapupa allegedly became angry and took an okapi knife from his pocket and fatally stabbed the deceased in the neck and fled the scene. “The deceased put up a chase in an attempt to apprehend the suspect but failed, because he collapsed in the process due to loss of blood,’’ said the police.
