BA elective congress this weekend

The chairperson of the Black Africa (BA) Sport Club, Tomi Adams, says the club will hold its elective congress at Khorixas in Kunene region on Saturday.

Adams told New Era Sport that preparations are in full swing, and delegates had confirmed their participation.

He said the supporters from around Khorixas are overwhelmed and excited that the team has branched out to their area.

“Khorixas supporters are excited because they believe BA is a team supported by the vast majority of Namibians countrywide, and not only in Windhoek. They are happy,” Adams said.

The chairperson added that he wants to dispel the notion that BA only has supporters based in Windhoek.

“It is not true I for one have been supporting this team while I stayed in Arandis during the 80s. Did that make me a Windhoeker?” he asked.

He said those supporters who feel left out know why they say that, because the executive does not know.

Adams emphasised that those people are self-exiled supporters because of ill-discipline.

“Trying to hype up innocent and ignorant people would not help. Some people are just attention-seekers, and if you are not a delegate, it is so logical that you would not be part of deliberations,” the chairperson said.

He added that Black Africa is a team with very strong links to the Roman Catholic Church, and they thought it fit to give much respect to that.

“That is why we honour that fact to hold the meeting at the church hall in Khorixas at 10h00 on Saturday,” noted Adams.

He said the congress will have a constitutionally- prescribed number of delegates, and it is an elective annual general meeting.

“So, all positions, starting from the chairperson to additional members, are up for grabs,” he said.

Asked what criteria was used to select the congress delegates, Adams said national supporters’ coordinator  Lolo Goraseb established regional structures, from which delegates were chosen.

Adams said he is standing for re-election.

He said those supporters still harbouring bad thoughts must wake up from their slumber…smell the BA coffee, and accept that change is permanent.

“They could not annex this team, and now their latest desperate act is to instigate people with a useless petition. Poor them who are being used by a person who thinks he is the alfa and omega of BA,” he said.

He then called on delegates to come and exercise their democratic unhindered right.

“Be good ambassadors for your region and BA at large. Choose your leadership wisely,” the chairperson said.
