Nearly 100 athletes have registered to compete in the Epukiro centenary commemoration half marathon scheduled for tomorrow at Omaueuozonjanda in the Omaheke region.
Event organiser, Japandera Procollo Kamburona, told Nampa the half marathon symbolises the long journey the community travelled during the migration from the concentration camps to the present-day Epukiro constituency.
“So far we have 80 participants, and registration will continue on Friday (today). Interested marathon runners still have time to register. I am impressed by the high turnout from the youth,” he said.
He said athletes will compete in the five kilometre, 10 km and 21 km categories.
“We have 100 medals earmarked for the first 100 athletes to complete the course, which also symbolises the centenary commemoration of the community’s migration to Epukiro,” Kamburona said.
The races will start at 05h00 tomorrow. – Nampa
