Ongos Football Club is set to host an open training session this weekend to connect with fans, and build exciting rapport for the 2024/25 season.
The event will take place at the Moses Van Der Byl soccer field in Windhoek. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be involved in the training session, providing fans with an opportunity to interact with their favourite players.
The club also plans to sell replica jerseys and engage in other fan-friendly activities. Speaking to this publication yesterday, club’s head of sport Ricardo Mannetti said this is a great platform to connect with fans.
“It’s an open training day, but we’re going to have so many activities on the day. We are going to engage our fans, both old and new ones, we are going to sell our replica jerseys as well, which serves as a ticket to all our home matches for the season. Players will be taking photos with fans as well. But overall, we expect this to be a big event for the football club,” he said.
Ongos Ladies made history last season as they became the first team to win the league unbeaten throughout the 2023/24 First National Bank (FNB) Women’s Super League. The win saw Ongos walk away with N$250 000.
Meanwhile, the men’s team had success during the 2023/24 Debmarine season finishing second with a total of 61 points, three behind African Stars, who clinched the title with a total of 64 points.
Mannetti said this initiative will allow fans to be part of their 2024/25 season’s goals. “We want to engage the community, and get them into our world. We don’t want to work in isolation, but work together with our fans and introduce them to some of our new products,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shama Gure who heads the women’s team said Saturday’s engagement would be very pivotal for both the players and fans.
“Last season was a success for us, and in the coming one we would like to make it as successful as last season. So, engaging fans this weekend will give us a clear pathway to what we want to achieve and it would be very important for fans to take up their suggestions as well,” he added.
