The Namibia Boxing Federation (NBF) over the weekend held its Annual General Meeting (AGM), where new members were elected to various positions. 

The event that took place at Otjiwarongo, tackled various issues. 

One of the highlights of the event was the selection of Jeremia Ndjembo as the new NBF president. 

New executive members who were elected are Joel Ngungu, Lysia Hangula, Immanuel Hamukwaya, Trefina Shivolo, Selma Shikukumwa, Petrus Kashongo, Israel Hamutumbangela, Kefas Itaratjike, Martin Shipindo and Lazarus Amuthenu.

Sports commentator Joseph Bernhard, who represented Namibia at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta as a boxer, said he is happy with the new leadership and hopes they will transform the federation. 

“Its good to see change and I hope the new president together with his board members will steer the federation to new heights. It’s been long since we had so many boxers at the Olympics and I hope with the new guys coming in, they will push to have many boxers at the upcoming Olympics,” he said. 

He further said Ndjembo should focus on developing sport rather than serving his personal vendetta. 

“I wish him all the best and I hope he focuses on developing the sport. He should focus on serving the nation rather than focusing on himself. We haven’t had a moment in the world of amateur boxing, I hope at the next Olympics we will see more boxers,” he said.
