Mondesa gets cricket hub for youth development

SWAKOPMUND – A transformative milestone in sports and community development was celebrated last week Friday, as stakeholders broke ground for the Mondesa Cricket Hub at Hanganeni Primary School in the Tulinawa location. Scheduled for completion in February 2025, this facility aims to foster inclusivity, youth empowerment, and social cohesion through the #Cricket4All initiative.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Erongo governor Neville Andre highlighted the significance of the project in uplifting the local community.

“This project is a testament to the transformative power of sport. It embodies the spirit of community upliftment and underscores the Namibian government’s commitment to youth development,” said Andre. “We extend heartfelt gratitude to Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine for their unwavering support. Your investment is not just in infrastructure but in the future of Mondesa’s youth.”

Andre emphasised the role of sports in national development, describing the hub as a space for nurturing dreams and breaking down barriers. “Facilities like the Mondesa Cricket Hub are more than sports grounds; they are springboards for talent and ambition. Here in Mondesa, young boys and girls can dare to dream big.”

Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine and Cricket Namibia announced a three-year partnership to bring this vision to life, aligning their efforts with the #Cricket4All campaign. Speaking at the event, Cricket Namibia representative Johan Ambuga expressed excitement about the collaboration.

“This hub is more than a facility; it’s a haven that will inspire and steer children away from the streets. Together with Langer Heinrich Uranium, we aim to make cricket accessible to everyone, sparking dreams and creating future stars,” Ambuga said.

He reiterated the significance of stakeholder partnerships. “This milestone would not have been possible without our sponsors and supporters. Together, we are building brighter futures for Mondesa’s youth through cricket.”
