Shikongo retains WBA Pan-Africa title …as Simon and Ninja exhibit

Salut Boxing Gym’s boxer Abed Shikongo retained his World Boxing Association (WBO) Pan-Africa title after his bout against Harry Simon Jr. ended in a draw on Saturday morning at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek.

The two were the main attraction on the card, where Simon ‘The Terminator’ vs. Paulus Shimweefeleni ‘Ninja’ competed in an exhibition match in an effort to fight crime.

Speaking after the match, Shikongo expressed gratitude for retaining his title against an equally strong opponent.

“It was a tough contest against Simon Jr. I am glad I have my title. I think the boxing fraternity enjoyed this fight. I believe we can only do justice to this if a rematch is organised,” he said.

The bout started with intensity as the fighters exchanged heavy punches in the opening round. The action continued into the second round, with both boxers applying pressure and throwing sharp jabs. Although some punches landed, the pace of the fight suggested that the competitors were content to maintain their rhythm.

The Terminator and Ninja’s fight was declared a draw.

In other bouts on the night, Frans Amukwa, who made his pro debut, recorded his first professional win as he beat Samuel Martin by unanimous decision in the junior featherweight division.

In the featherweight division, Erasmus Hifivali defeated Edward Mbangu.

Alfeus Modino also won after he beat Sakaria Kandjabange in the lightweight division.

In the flyweight division, Simon Angula recorded a well-deserved victory after he defeated Immanuel David.

In the welterweight division, Samuel Nande won against Elso Kalus.

Josef Amweya won against Fillipus Amwaama in the junior middleweight division category.

In the national title fight, Jonas Erastus clinched the flyweight national title after a hard-fought battle against Jonathan Kasheeta.
