He said a fierce battle is expected this weekend as previous winners Otjozondjima and Red Fire, in the football and netball categories, respectively, aim to retain their titles.
“We will end our tournament as planned and enable players and supporters to have time with their families during Christmas,” Hange said.
The spokesperson of Otjombinde Sport Council Easy Katjipotu told the publication that all is coming to an end this weekend in Tallismanus.
“We had 40 football and 38 netball teams who vied for the N$50 000 worth of competition called the December Councillor Wenzel Kavaka Cup 2024,” he said.
Katjipotu said that the defending champions in the football category Life Inno City, and netball’s previous winner Omuramba are still in contention.
“We are going to kick off with the quarter-final matches in netball while football teams will commence with the round of 16 matches,” he said.
The Aminuis constituency is known for hosting two festive tournaments in December, the first one came to an end last weekend.
Metaa Kazeurua, who is the president of the Omongua Netball Football Association (Onefa) said Gauteng FC was crowned football champions in the first tournament when they stunned Okombepera with a solitary goal in the final.
The Otjovakombe ladies took the netball accolade after defeating Kajalami by a 28 – 24 scoreline in the final.
On Saturday at Aminuis sports field, 39 football and 30 netball teams will vie for an N$37 000 competition under the auspices of ONEFA and Kazeurua confirmed to the publication that the tournament will end on Monday.
Meanwhile, in Otjinene, the tournament ended last weekend with the Fine Young Stars netball team claiming the championship.
The Erindiroukambe-based ladies defeated their Ozonduno counterparts 34-33 in the highly contested final.
One of the competition organisers Nokokure Hambira said the football competition final saw the splitting of money between the two finalists due to time.
“The decision was taken to share the money between Fine Young Stars and Ehungiro as it was too late to continue due to the unavailability of headlights at the Otjinene Sports field.
