Rehoboth residents are becoming increasingly frustrated by the continued closure of the Reho Spa Recreational Resort since 2011 after it fell into disrepair.
The facility was transferred to the Rehoboth Town Council from the State-owned Namibia Wildlife Resorts in 2024 and has been undergoing major renovations since.
According to local media reports last year, it was expected to reopen in December 2024.
The facility, however, remains closed, much to the disappointment of residents, who claim the town council has failed to update them regarding its opening.
Some residents expressed displeasure about the council’s silence on the matter to Nampa last week.
“It’s disappointing that we’re still waiting for updates, especially when this is such an important part of our community. We understand things take time, but a little transparency would go a long way,” one of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
Another resident echoed similar concerns: “They keep saying renovations are ongoing, but how long is it going to take? The place has been closed for years, and we have no idea what’s happening.”
Approached for comment, Rehoboth Town Council spokesperson Desire Pieters said they will only be able to provide clarity on the matter after a meeting scheduled for the second week of February.
“The council is currently on recess and will resume sitting in the second week of February. After that meeting, we will be in a position to provide more details,” Pieters said.
The town council held its elections for office-bearers in December last year, with Justin Coetzee elected as the new mayor of the town. He also could not shed light on the future of the resort.
