The Okamatapati Soccer League (OSL) in the Otjozondjupa region has changed its name to Clemence Rukatero Vihajo Okamatapati Soccer League.

The change was necessitated by the N$30 000 sponsorships from Waldtime Vihajo, who wants to keep his father’s legacy as one of the prominent figures in the Okamatapati settlement.

The late Vihajo was one of the prominent figures, who played a huge role in uplifting development in the area.

Besides the contributions to the development of sport in the settlement, the sponsorship will make significant changes to the league.

Receiving the donation, league coordinator Wilson Nguvauva said the sponsorship will motivate other sponsors to come on board to help the development of football in the area.

“Many youths in the area are doing nothing. This league is something that keeps them busy. It also prevents young people from indulging in alcohol or unwanted activities within society,” said the coordinator.

Nguvauva added that this was a good gesture shown by Vihajo.

Their donation will be used for the intended purpose.

“Our teams will now have something to play for. It will be great for competition and nurturing of talent in Okamatapati. We have many talented players here, but they lack motivation and exposure,” he said.

Nguvauva said only eight teams registered for the league.

They expect the number to increase before kickoff in early February 2025.

The registered teams are Ekuija Monjama, Classic Eleven, Okamatapati Combined School (CS), Lala United, Scorpions, Amakhosi Boys, Shiny and Forest Jazongune.

Following its impressive performances, Okamatapati qualified for the third division.

However, it sold its status to Okondjatu Nampol to play in the Okakarara third division.

Nguvauva said their participation in the third division will hamper school learners, as they have to travel long distances to play their opponents.

He called on interested teams to register for the fourth division.

It will be a feeder to the top leagues in the Otjozondjupa region.
