Namibian ambassador to the United States Margaret Mensah-Williams says the deportation list of US president Donald Trump, which seeks to deport 19 Namibians, is invalid.

Speaking to New Era, she said her office had received official communication on the matter from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“The DHS has advised all embassies to disregard the so-called ‘Trump deportation list’, clarifying that ICE did not issue this document. Therefore, it is invalid,” she said.

Mensah-Williams further said the ICE will continue its standard procedures, which include requesting travel documents from embassies when necessary for individuals with final orders of removal and no legal impediments to their deportation.

She assured that the Namibian mission in the US would keep the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation updated on any developments regarding the situation.
