The Namibian Wrestling Federation (NWF) announced that two of their top Greco-Roman wrestlers, Virinao Nguatjiti and Devin Benhard, have been accepted into an exclusive two-week training camp at the renowned Institut National du Sport, de l’Expertise et de la Performance (INSEP) in Paris, France.
This incredible opportunity comes through a groundbreaking partnership between United World Wrestling (UWW), the French Wrestling Federation, and INSEP. The training camp, which is partially funded by these organisations, will provide the athletes with world-class coaching, access to cutting-edge facilities, and the opportunity to train alongside some of the best Greco-Roman wrestlers globally.
This intensive programme is a key part of the NWF’s preparation for the upcoming African Continental Championships in April.
Anke Erasmus, secretary general of the NWF, expressed excitement, saying, “This is a golden opportunity for our athletes. Training at INSEP, one of the world’s leading institutions for elite sports, will significantly improve their skills and help them get ready for the African Championships. We are deeply grateful to United World Wrestling, the French Wrestling Federation, and INSEP for their support and for recognising the potential of our Namibian wrestlers.”
Erasmus further emphasised the importance of such opportunities for the development of wrestling in Namibia, stating, “As a still-developing sport in Namibia, we are incredibly thankful to the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) for supporting our athletes and making this opportunity possible.”
Both Nguatjiti and Benhard have shown outstanding dedication and skill, earning their place in this prestigious programme.
Their participation in the Paris training camp will not only aid their personal development but will also benefit the growth of wrestling in Namibia as a whole.
Colin Steytler, president of the NWF, added, “We believe investing in our athletes’ professional growth is key to advancing wrestling in Namibia. This training camp reflects our commitment to providing our wrestlers with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed on the international stage.”
