Namibia’s top motorsport drivers were honoured over the weekend as the Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMF) hosted its annual awards’ ceremony in Windhoek to celebrate last season’s top performers.

The event took place on Saturday at Wanderers Sports Ground, where more than 20 individuals were recognised for their achievements. One of the standout winners of the night was young prodigy Russell Josephat, who dominated the Bambino category and walked away with the top award after an outstanding season, excelling in every local event he participated in.

Reacting to the win, Josephat’s father and mentor JP Josephat said the award was a major milestone that would further motivate his son. “This award brings a lot of emotions and joy, especially after all the hard work we’ve put in. It’s proof that dedication pays off,” he said.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in maintaining their success locally and expanding it internationally. “We want to continue dominating here at home, and make sure that success translates to international competitions. We’ve already achieved great results in South Africa, and that gives us hope that soon we’ll be a force to reckon with globally,” he added.

Other notable winners included Cecil Koorts, who dominated the 2024 Namibia Rok Karting Championship. Meanwhile, Kristopher Koudelka, winner of the Kid Rok category with Nande Kaiyamo, being crowned champion in the Mini-Max category. Nikita Thieme was named the winner of the DD2 Masters category.

Speaking on the success of the event, NMF secretary general Derek Jacobs shared the importance of recognising athletes’ achievements. “We host these awards annually to reward our top performers. Last season was particularly exciting, with many outstanding moments, including riders competing abroad and bringing home medals. Recognising their hard work motivates them to keep pushing forward,” he said.
