Minor hacked with spade at Kahoro 

RUNDU – The police in Kavango West have arrested a man for allegedly hacking a minor to death on Sunday. 

The suspect allegedly struck the minor with the spade on the head, killing her instantly. The incident happened at about 18h00 at Kahoro village, in the Mpungu constituency of Kavango West. 

“The deceased was among other children playing in the homestead of the suspect during and before the incident. It is further alleged that to chase the kids away from the house, the suspect used the spade and hit the deceased on the head, killing the child instantly,’’ said police spokesperson Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, who confirmed the incident. 

Muronga said the deceased was identified as Martha Kapango Hamunyela (4), and her next of kin have been informed. “The 57-year-old suspect, who was on the run since committing the alleged crime, was tracked down through footprints at Namuntuntu village in the bushes and arrested at about 11h00 on Monday. He will appear in court this week in Rundu,’’ Muronga added. In a separate suspected murder case, still in Kavango West, a body observed with s ome visible bruises was discovered on Saturday, at 12h00 at Sitopogo village by a fellow villager. 

“The deceased was identified as Himarwa Kasius Himarwa (30), a Namibian male. The remains were transported to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary. The next of kin has been informed. No inquest or case docket has been opened yet, pending autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death,’’ Muronga said. 

Four suspects were taken in for questioning. “The communities are urged to assist the police with any information regarding the two incidents, to fast-track arrests of suspects. 

In another matter, the body of Andreas Katjaka Muhongi (29), a Namibian male, was discovered hanging with a rope around his neck in his sleeping room at 21h40 in Nzinze village on Sunday evening. 

According to the police, it is believed that the deceased may have committed suicide; however, no suicide note was found. “The deceased earlier laid a criminal complaint at Kahenge police station for defamation of character against some known individuals. Police investigation continues on both incidents,’’ said Chief Inspector Muronga. 

In other news, an elderly man who was reported missing last week was found dead on Monday, at 10h00 at Kakuro village. 

“It is alleged that the body of the elderly man who was reported missing on 6 August 2025 at Karayi village was found stuck in the river by members of the police water wing. He was wearing a red t-shirt, black official trousers, black official shoes and a black hoodie,’’ said Muronga. 

The deceased was identified as Abel Albano (71). The body was taken to Nkurenkuru police mortuary for a postmortem to be conducted while police investigations continue. -jmuyamba@nepc.com.com.na
