The Swapo Elders’ Council Secretary for Information and Mobilisation, Karin Shikalepo, on Saturday extended a helping hand to Elfriede #Kharises, a resident of  Dordabis, who was left destitute after a fire destroyed her home and all her belongings on the evening of Friday, 8 August 2025.

Shikalepo donated food items, clothing, bedding, building materials, and various household necessities to assist #Kharises, a pensioner and single mother who relies solely on a government pension grant to support her six dependents. 

Speaking at the handover, Shikalepo said the Elders’ Council initiated a humanitarian drive to mobilise support and ease the hardship mostly faced by the elders. “Today we are here to hand over these items on behalf of the Elders’ Council to comrade #Kharises, ensuring that she and her family have a roof over their heads once again,” she said.

Expressing gratitude, #Kharises thanked the Swapo Elders’ Council for their swift response.

“The Swapo Party has once again demonstrated that it cares for its people. It was only a few days ago that I reached out to the council, and today they are here with us. This truly shows that Swapo is the people, and the people are Swapo,” she said.  -lnashuuta@nepc.com.na
