The 2025 Capricorn Schools Netball League Finals were a true celebration of team spirit, determination and school pride as students, parents and supporters gathered in large numbers to cheer for their teams at the Windhoek Gymnasium netball courts over the weekend.

Now in its ninth year, the league has established itself as one of the top platforms for youth netball in Namibia, with over 85 teams from 30 schools across eight regions participating.  The finals brought together the best teams after months of competition, culminating in a weekend of exciting quarterfinals, semifinals and championship matches. In the results, Windhoek Gymnasium dominated the younger divisions by winning gold in the U/12, U/15 and U/17 categories.

Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool impressed by claiming the U/13 and U/14 titles.  Pro-Ed Academy, Roots Gymnasium, Tsumeb Gymnasium and Jan Möhr Secondary School each secured podium finishes, highlighting the depth of competition across the country. The prestigious U/19 crown was won by Windhoek High School, which overcame tough competitors to take the top spot. Windhoek Gymnasium earned second place, with the Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool securing third place.

Windhoek High School U/19 netball coach Cornè van der Walt praised her players, expressing pride and feeling overwhelmed by their victory.

“Some of the girls went through injuries, but they pulled through in the end and made me proud,” she said.

For the players, the victory was equally fulfilling. Hope Kazondovi, a three-time Capricorn Schools Netball League champion and U/19 player for Windhoek High School, reflected on the importance of the moment.

“I am thankful for our win and glad that I could play all three championships for three consecutive years and be a winner,” she said.

The large turnout of schools and supporters turned the finals into more than just a competition. It was a lively showcase of community pride, friendship and school spirit.

As cheers echoed from the sidelines, it was clear that the Capricorn Schools Netball League has become more than just about crowning champions. It is about fostering unity and celebrating the future of Namibian sport.
