Omusati commits to deliver health services

WINDHOEK- The Omusati Health Director, Alfons Amoomo, has revealed the region will carry out several capital projects during the current financial year.

At the top of the list, he said, is the construction of ablution facilities at Okatseidhi Clinic and the upgrading of pit toilets to modern flushable facilities at Sheetekela Clinic.

Omusati Region has four district hospitals, six health centers, and 42 clinics serving a population of 330758 inhabitants.

Amoomo said the region is making good progress in health service provision. Notable achievements include the completion of the repair on the fence and installation of an alternate emergency exit door at Onesi Health Centre.

“The installation of a poly floor in Ward 3 at Outapi Hospital is also underway. A purchase order has been issued to the contractor, and we are currently waiting for the site handover,” he added.

He further reported that the renovation of Tsandi Clinic, which involved the supply and installation of a poly floor at a total cost of nearly N$500 000, has been completed.

Additionally, he said, the site was handed over to the contractor for further renovations.

These renovations include work at Okahao Hospital’s female, male, and maternity wards; the kitchen at Outapi Hospital; the ceiling of the Regional Management Team office; and the installation of office blinds.

He emphasised that the process of obtaining procurement authorization had been initiated. The bill of quantities was received from the Department of Works and submitted to the Procurement Management Unit  for consideration and further processing.

“Most of the activities are carried out by a competent team of artisans in the region. They conduct maintenance inspections, identify facilities in need of renovation, and compile detailed specifications for all materials required for minor renovations,” Amoomo

He also highlighted that the region is currently facing a shortage of nurses’ accommodation in remote areas.

“To address this, our team of artisans is planning to construct temporary nurses’ accommodation at Onamatanga Clinic,” he added.

Meanwhile, the director also stated that malaria cases have decreased over the past two months.

“We will continue to fight against malaria in the community to prevent unnecessary deaths,” he added.
