Rape, murder, stock theft shadow weekend

Matheus David

Communities across the country were left reeling this past weekend after a series of violent crimes, including rape, murder and stock theft.

What should have been peaceful days turned tragic as families mourned loved ones and others counted their losses due to relentless acts of violence.

According to the Namibian police weekly crime update, in Windhoek’s Katutura, a body of an unidentified woman was found naked along a fence.

Torn jeans, underwear and a condom wrapper were recovered nearby.

Police confirmed she had no visible injuries, and efforts to identify her and notify her next of kin are ongoing.

In Windhoek’s Wanaheda, a fight between two men turned deadly, resulting in the death of Moses Albert Katiti (46).

He allegedly suffered fatal injuries during the altercation with a 25-year-old suspect and died at the scene.

The suspect has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.

Tragedy struck in Rehoboth’s Voltruisvlakte Block G, where Christiano Henrico De Koker (17) was stabbed in the neck and later died at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Police reported that two known suspects fled the scene and remain at large.

In Maltahöhe, a 15-year-old girl was brutally raped after an unknown man emerged from a nearby field, assaulted her cousin and then attacked her under coercive circumstances.

The suspect remains at large.

A different rape incident was reported in Goreagab, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by an 18-year-old acquaintance after being locked in a room by the owner of a makeshift bar.

No arrests have been made in connection with this case.

Incidents of stock theft also affected rural communities.

In Tses, a 24-year-old suspect was arrested after slaughtering a goat valued at N$1 800.

In Farm Fahlwater, Karibib District, suspects shot and butchered a cow worth N$17 000 before escaping with the meat, leaving only the animal’s head, neck and backbone behind.

Police investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
