A 54-year-old man, accused of stabbing his customer to death over a N$2 dispute at Onankali has been denied bail by the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court.

The suspect, Simeon Angula, a resident of Onankali village in the Oshikoto region, made his first court appearance on Tuesday on a murder charge.

Angula remains in custody after the court denied him bail and postponed the matter to 30 March 2026 for further police investigations.

The police said the incident occurred on 26 September, around 23h30, at the Onankali location in the Onyaanya Constituency.

It is alleged that a fight broke out between Angula and the deceased Ernesty Tangeni Amutenya (27) after an argument over N$2 change at the suspect’s cuca-shop.

Police state that Amutenya asked for a glass of tombo costing N$8 but was served one worth N$10.

After demanding his N$2 change, the suspect allegedly refused to return it, which led to a heated confrontation.

The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Angula allegedly struck Amutenya with an iron rod.

The deceased reportedly grabbed the rod and struck the suspect back.

Angula allegedly then pulled out an okapi knife and stabbed Amutenya once in the right side of his abdomen.

Both men were taken to Onandjokwe State Hospital.

The suspect was released the next day, but Amutenya died from his injuries on 29 September.

It is further alleged that Angula had previously banned Amutenya from entering his cuca-shop, although the reasons for the ban remain unknown.
